The Benedum Center Stage Technician, House Sound Engineer, functions as a hands-on department head, responsible for the operation, maintenance, management, and troubleshooting of all audio, video, and communications systems for every event, including, but not limited to, stage, front of house, and backstage areas. The House Sound Engineer will also inspect and maintain these systems, ensuring proper documentation of maintenance logs, special projects, and show-related systems and procedures. Working with the Director of Production and the Production Management team, they will advance the audio needs for all events and take a leading role in the research and execution of capital projects.
This position requires a minimum of five years of experience in audio system management, mixing, maintenance, and theater-specific audio/video support systems. In addition to technical expertise, experience with sound design to support productions is preferred.
The House Sound Engineer may also perform tasks, as needed, in other areas without regard to departmental distinction; however, it is understood that these tasks shall not interfere with the safe and professional execution of their primary responsibilities to the Employer as a head of department. The primary function of this position is the support of public performances which take place during the evenings, weekends, and holidays. The House Sound Engineer must be able to meet the demanding needs of this rigorous schedule.
This is a union position with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 3. All applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of current union affiliation. If accepted for employment, membership in IATSE Local 3 will be granted after the probationary period. The starting salary is $39.03/ hour.
